  • segmenting and blending consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words
  • decoding and recognizing first 25 sight words
  • working on fluency and expression
  • checking for understanding of the story/text to build comprehension
  • reading a variety of texts
  • expressing ideas with others

Writing

  • using pictures to tell stories
  • labeling pictures with salient sounds
  • stretching words to hear beginning, middle, and ending sounds
